  • Report to and closely interact with CSO
  • Liaise with other CSO department heads and Discovery Research sub-department heads, scientists, project management, and program heads to implement and execute discovery research projects and to support programs and product development with the objective of developing innovative and commercially competitive drugs
  • Screen, initiate, and lead project opportunities that enhances Affimed’s immune cell engager platforms and applications
  • Provide scientific oversight to sub-departments, NCDTs (Non-clinical Development Teams) and XPTs (Cross-functional Program Teams)
  • Provide input to evaluation of novel disease targets for application with Affimed’s immune cell engager platforms
  • Initiate and execute suitable research collaborations with key stakeholders
  • Support international collaborations with pharma or academic partners
  • Support discovery research-related efforts in intellectual property, business development, quality, and finance
  • Actively follow global cutting edge developments in discovery research and technology with the objective to implement innovative approaches at Affimed


  • Ph.D. in Life Sciences or M.D.
  • Specialization in Antibody Engineering & Discovery and Molecular & Cell Biology
  • More than 10 years of industrial experience in relevant area
  • Strong and proven leadership and team player capabilities
  • Proven supervisory and managerial skills
  • Strong knowledge of biologics drug discovery and development & experience with multi-specific antibody designs
  • Deep understanding of immuno-biology, immune therapy, and preclinical development
  • Basic understanding of clinical development
  • Goal-oriented approach, with a track record of driving the most complex programs
  • Ability to work pro-actively, independently, and tenacious when necessary
  • High intellect and ambitious individual with a commitment to make a significant contribution to new therapies
  • Pragmatic, hands-on approach
  • Ability to conduct multiple projects in a dynamic environment, delivering milestones and adhering to timelines
  • Ability to prioritize and structure all research activities towards the needs for pre-clinical development & beyond.
  • Profound software skills (e.g. MS Office & relevant lab-related analysis software)
  • Excellent and effective communication skills
  • Fluent in German and English (written and oral)
