  • Act as a subject matter expert in a key area of immuno-oncology as member of a scientific strategy and development team, supporting the development of novel cancer immunotherapeutics
  • Establish the scientific rationale and experimental design of translational studies to support clinical development of Affimed’s drug candidates and to implement key findings from clinical studies to drive innovative development of drug candidates
  • Create and maintain indication landscapes to identify patient cohorts with high responder potential and to identify optimal settings for efficacy of mono- or combination therapies with Affimed’s drug candidates
  • Initiate and drive all aspects of translational research in development programs in close collaboration with the cross-functional program teams
  • Initiate and lead external translational research collaborations and ensure their deliverables on time, within budget and in high quality
  • Present project status updates as well as new and innovative project ideas on a regular basis in meetings with different audiences, e.g. preclinical teams, cross-functional program teams and management team
  • Integrate latest findings from relevant publications, supporting further development of ongoing as well as novel projects


  • Degree (MD/PhD or PhD or MD) with relevant experience in immuno-oncology
  • 5 years or more of experience in clinical/translational research in a clinical, biotech or pharmaceutical industry environment
  • In depth knowledge in immunology and tumor biology, including relevant markers, immune cell populations and cellular crosstalk within the tumor microenvironment
  • Strong pathology background and digital pathology experience with relevant cancer biology, biomarker research background and clinical pathology experience is highly preferred
  • Proven record in immuno-monitoring of patients in early phase clinical development
  • Experience in preclinical development of antibody- and / or cell-based therapeutics is of advantage
  • A solid understanding of drug discovery, clinical development, biochemistry, molecular biology, cancer biology
  • Strong capabilities in relationship building with team members and external partners, ensuring successful collaboration
  • Experience in driving projects according to timelines, budget and quality standards
  • Excellent communication skills covering a broad range of audiences, including research teams, cross-functional program teams and management
  • Fluent in English (oral & written), German language skills desirable
