Head of Innate Immune Cell Therapies (f/m/d)

Responsibilities

• Lead a multifunctional team to evaluate and translate biological mechanisms of innate immune cells in combination with Innate Cell Engagers (ICE®) to product development and CMC teams
• Build scientific rationale and drive experimental work to establish combination therapies of Affimed’s ICE® and adoptive cellular therapy
• Lead and establish R&D scale production of innate immune cell preparations and drive the evaluation of novel combination regimens in vitro and in vivo
• Work collaboratively in a matrix environment and act as a subject matter expert to preclinical teams, cross-functional program teams, and management team
• Develop novel disease-relevant hypotheses and innovative drug concepts with a focus on innate immunity and drive publication of experimental results

Requirements

• Advanced degree (M.D. or Ph.D. in life sciences) with relevant experience in cellular cancer immunotherapies
• At minimum, five years of research leadership experience in a clinical, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry setting in the context of the development of cellular therapies in immuno-oncology
• Experience in leading a research laboratory driving projects according to timelines, budget and quality
• Experience in large-scale preparation and functional characterization of innate immune cells such as NK cells, gamma-delta T cells and/or macrophages and detailed knowledge about related processing equipment such as CliniMACS, CliniMACS Prodigy, G-Rex
• Specific knowledge on genetic modification of innate immune cells is a plus
• Good understanding of regulatory and quality requirements for GMP-compliant production of cell products is a plus
• Strong capabilities in relationship building with team members and external partners, ensuring successful collaboration
• Excellent communication skills covering a broad range of audiences, including research teams, cross-functional program teams and management team
• Fluent in English (oral & written), German language skills are a plus
